Day 9 - Monday 8/1/2016 - Hike Avalanche Lake and Fly Home

We woke up about 8:00am and had breakfast again at the Hampton Inn. We finished packing and checked out about 9:00am for one last day before flying homes. On our way into the park, we stopped at West Glacier post office to mail back the Huckleberry jam we bought since it was too many oz to carry on the plane and we weren’t planning on checking any bags. We then headed for the Avalanche Lake Trail. Avalanche Lake Trial was located on the west side of the park so we didn't have to travel too far. Parking was tight as always but we lucked into a spot. We started the hike at about 10:30 and got to the lake about 11:15. It was a nice tree covered hike that ended in a wonderful lake surrounded by the mountains. It was a beautiful scene but the sun was at the wrong angle for pictures. This spot would be better in the afternoon and evenings since it was on the west side of the park. Still worth the hike in though!

We made it back to the car by 12:30 and shuffled some items to make them plane ready. We stopped by Lake McDonald camp store for final souvenirs and dropped off the bear spray at Apgar Outfitters in Apgar Village. We hit the Subway in Columbia Falls and returned the car to Enterprise who shuttled us to the airport. We got the airport at about 2:45pm so with plenty of time and there was no line at security for the Kalispell airport. Our 5:00pm flight to Denver was right on time where we changed planes onto Houston.

And so ended a fantastic trip! We cannot recommend Glacier National Park near enough!
