Day 3- Tuesday 7/31/2018 - HOH RIver Trail and the West Side of the Park

Another full day in Olympic NP! Brian, Scott, and myself were out the door by 6:30 AM to start our 2 hour drive over to the HOH Rain Forest area on the west side of the park. Once we got there we started our 5 mile round trip hike along the HOH River Trail to a waterfall. There was very little elevation so it made for a nice easy hike. The trail extended further with many people choosing to hike to 5 mile island making a 10 mile round trip for the day. We did basically half of that just to give us some time later in the day. It took us about 3 hours to do our portion of the hike including several stops for pictures. We even ran into Jake from Hike734.com on the trail! We have used his website for a few of our vacations that it was so neat to meet him in person. His maps re excellent resources for planning your hiking trip to certain National Parks! He was going all the way to 5 mile island so about double what we were doing.

After we got back off the trail we headed to Forks, Wa and grabbed lunch at this great little, local fast foodish place with a big menu. Everything was fried, such a treat! We then headed for the famous Rialto Beach and walked down it for 30 min or so and saw the sea spires!
At 1:30pm we headed back to Port Angeles with its 2 hour drive in order to get to the visitor center there before they closed at 4 PM so I could get my favorite souvenir, a Christmas ornament. We then headed back to the room for showers and headed out to get dinner. Scott found Next Door Gastropub on Yelp with good reviews so it was an easy decision. They had a little wait so we explored downtown until it was time. It was a really good meal, the poutine was delicious and extremely filling and I highly recommend the Green Curry Seafood dinner. We retired back to the room and started to pack up to go home tomorrow.

Hoh River Trail - 10 Miles Round Trip; 300 ft elevation gain
