Day 1 - Travel to Miami
Day 1 - Sunday May 24
This first day was a pure travel day over to Miami. My mom, sister and brother in law live in Buna, Tx and would be driving into Houston to fly out. The entire group had points and credit cards with Southwest Airlines so it made sense for us to fly together on that. However, Southwest only had one direct flight a day between Houston and Miami which was fine for traveling out but will be an issue traveling back.
Our flight out left Houston at 1:00pm and got to Miami at 4:20pm. The 1:00pm departure made for a nice leisurely morning of packing and heading out. The Buna crew were driving in that morning so the timing was nice. Due to their drive in, they wanted to give themselves plenty of time so go to the airport about an hour ahead of us. We left our house in west Houston around 10:30am and was parking a little after 11:00. Checking the bags at the airport was a little backed up but we had plenty of time. We had our two big suitcases checked and through security by 11:45.
We went over to the gate to meet my mom, sister and brother-in-law and dropped our backpacks off there. We then hit Windy's for lunch. Our 1:00pm flight was running a bit late but we pushed back just 15 minutes off schedule. Since Southwest Airlines now does assigned seating, all 6 of us had row 17. We landed in Miami at 4:45pm local time.
We had rooms in the Hampton Inn Blue Lagoon which was near the airport. They ran a shuttle and without much wait, we were able to catch it but they only had 4 seats open, not 6. So the 4 girls got on and my brother-in-law and I stayed back and called a Lyft. We probably just should have waited for the shuttle as it took it a bit for the ride to get to us but is all good. The three rooms were all next to each other we just lounged in the rooms the rest of the evening. We door dashed Chipotle for dinner and all called it a night pretty early, excited for the next day!
