Day 5 - Sea Day
Day 5 - Thursday May 28
We woke up about 7:00am. The ship changed back from central to eastern time overnight so that is why it was 7:00am when we woke. The kid wanted to duck hunt again so she was up and went with E to go get coffee and then they proceeded to the Windjammer for breakfast. I was a bit slower getting ready and met up with mom, L and T to walk over. One of our Main Dining Room waiters, Abhjeet, was working one of the pastry stations and out some chocolate glazed donuts for the kid… He really went out of his way for her a few times!
After breakfast, I went straight to the Splashaway Bay loungers to get a spot, while the girls went to the room to change into swim ware. This was about 8:30 and I wanted to be sure to get good ones. Unfortunately, with the Freedom not pointed east, the sun was right on the Splashaway Bay loungers. They had been so nice in the shade on the trip west! Oh well, the breeze was nice and the virgin mojitos were tasty and refreshing. I lounged and read until the girls showed up.
It was a bit windy to play on the big splash pad and the kid wanted to swim so I went with her to the main pool and found a spot. I swam with her for about an hour until E and I switched out. Our daughter played in the big pool for until about 10:30 when we made her get out to take a break. E then took her to kids club for a family activity, which was close to where we were at Splashaway as I lounged some more. We then grabbed a drink and headed to the room to shower and clean up.
There was one extra fare restaurants we wanted to try and that was Johnny Rockets. So we met LT and Mom there (they were at the casino all morning) at noon for lunch. While it was hard to 'pay' for food, the burgers were delicious as were the fries, onion rings and shakes!
After lunch, LT and mom went back to the casino for a bit more while E and our daughter went to the room to rest a bit. I wanted to enjoy the ship so went to the main theater to catch the second half of the Love and Marriage show. It was so much fun! I know this trip was about family and the kid but those social game shows on cruises are a lot of fun!
I met up with the entire group at 2:00 as L & T wanted to take the kid ice skating! Yes, the Freedom opens up their ice ring to free skate during the afternoons on the sea days. T has some skating experience so he really helped the five year old for her first time on the ice. They liked it so much they went back for a second 30 minute session!
After skating, we went back to the room where the kid promptly fell asleep for a nap! We had been going pretty hard again today so she slept hard. We finally woke her up at 4:45pm as we had a 5:15 dinner reservation at Izumi Hibachi!
We, as a family, decided we wanted to do one extra fare dinner during the trip and through hibachi was a great option to do as a group. I booked this one of the times the prices dipped on it in the months leading up to the cruise and the 5 year old was free! Our experience at Izumi was great. As with everything on the Freedom, the staff was outstanding. Our daughter was pretty groggy and grumpy at the beginning, coming from the nap and the staff make her smile from the start. We all enjoyed the show. We were given many choices of protein and were able to select 2 from a list of steak, chicken, veggies, shrimp, lobster and scallops (I don't think I missed any…). We all made our choices and our daughter (the free one) was even allowed 2 portions and selected lobster and chicken! Out of them all, the steak and lobster were the winners!
After dinner, we hit the 7:00pm Royal Theater show featuring the juggling of David DiMuzio. He had a great show with him interacting with the crowd, juggling so many things and telling jokes. We really enjoyed it!
We made it back to our cabins about a quarter til 9 and the kid wasn't exactly tired due to her nap so we chilled on the balconies a bit and then finally got down about 9:30.
Another great day!
